Carmelle Sullivan is a graduate of the Environmental Studies program at Carleton, and joined the StraighUpNorth team to undertake her Master’s starting in September, 2009. She is interested in investigating the effectiveness of current efforts to develop more culturally appropriate teaching and learning strategies in Nunavut schools. She will be working with Attagoyuk High school in Pangnirtung, as part of the IPY project on Learning in Nunavut Through Our Earth. She has also been engaged as a Research Assistant for the IPY Inuit Sea Ice Use and Occupancy Project and had her first arctic experience in Gjoa Haven helping Dr. Laidler with a research planning workshop for SSHRC project Qanuittumik takuvit? (shown above beside an igloo built on the sea ice along the Gjoa Haven shoreline as part of a local cultural program).
