Carmelle Sullivan

MA Candidate

In September 2004, I began my post-secondary journey at Carleton University, completing my B.A. in Environmental Studies with the Department of Geography and Environmental Studies. Six years later I find myself pursuing an M.A. in the same department, this time looking through a geographical lens.

I began my research with supervisor Dr. Gita Laidler in 2009, initially focusing on geographical approaches to education in marine environments. Since then, I have concentrated my research interests around the current projects being undertaken to incorporate more culturally appropriate learning for students at high schools in Nunavut (Learning in Nunavut Through Our Earth). Working with Attagoyuk High school in Pangnirtung, I hope to discover how these projects are generating success and engagement for the participating students.

As well as working with Dr. Laidler in my own research, I have also undertaken a Research Assistant position to help out with other Nunavut based projects (e.g. the Inuit Sea Ice Use and Occupancy Project).
